Liberty campaigns for everyone in the UK to be treated fairly, with dignity and respect.
Liberty's thousands of members hold the powerful to account so rights are protected and freedom is valued for all. They empower others to defend their own rights and those of their friends, families and communities.
It is the oldest human rights campaigning organisation in the UK, founded in 1934 to defend the right to protest following police brutality against hunger marchers.
Its members have a proud history of changing the law, changing hearts and minds and delivering lasting change. It aims to benefit the many and the most vulnerable in society – from tackling the rise of fascism in the 1930s and lobbying for the Race Relations Act in the 1960s to challenging mass surveillance and standing up for soldiers' rights today.
Liberty is entirely independent, with principles guided by evidence and expertise – not political agenda, profit or popular opinion. Its team of experts work to protect people's rights through a combination of public and political campaigning, public interest litigation, media work and by offering free legal advice through its vital Advice and Information Service.Read more about Liberty
